So you have a domain name purchased from somewhere like
crazydomains and would like to have your GoDaddy Hosted Server host the wordpress website.
In this tutorial I will take you through the process on how to add another website to your GoDaddy hosting and the process involved in pointing an external domain your purchased elsewhere to your GoDaddy hosted server account.
What is an External Domain?
Most of you should be familiar with what is a domain name is for example www.facebook.com.
Now in the context we are talking about is, registering a domain name not through GoDaddy name register but with another provider such as crazydomains.
The benefit of doing this is your are not locked into GoDaddy for your domain name as well as your hosting and putting all services in one basket.
Where Do I get a Domain Name from?
As discussed you can get your domain name registered from places like crazydomains.
How do I point my external Domain to GoDaddy Hosting?
The following steps are required:
- Register your domain name.
- Add external Domain to GoDaddy DNS hosting.
- Update nameservers provided to your external domain.
- Update DNS record to point to your GoDaddy hosted server IP.
- Create domain and GoDaddy to create document root system for external domain.
- Install WordPress into that filesystem and do initial setup.
